GCC certification

GCC certification is based on the type certification organized by the seven Gulf countries. This includes G-mark and GCC certification.

Among them, G-mark mainly targets the requirements of household low-voltage electrical appliances and toys, while GCC certification mainly targets road vehicles (including motorcycles, passenger cars, trucks, buses, MPVs, etc.) and tires.

Taking passenger cars as an example, during GCC certification, the Gulf Organization has formed a regulatory system with GSO 42 as the core. Compared with European standards, the GSO regulatory system has its own special features. Part of the reason is that the bay has special geographical conditions and high temperatures throughout the year, so the requirements for radiators and tires are also higher. Another part of the reason is the reference to various regulatory systems, including European standards, American standards and ISO standard systems.

The recent rise of electric vehicles in China and the global push for carbon neutrality plans have increased demand for electric vehicles in the oil-rich Gulf states. However, as there is currently no complete regulatory system, the regulations of Saudi Arabia and the UAE cannot be integrated. OEMs need to apply for the GCC certificate of the Gulf Organization, the SASO certificate of Saudi Arabia and the ECAS certificate of the United Arab Emirates to enter the seven Gulf countries.

But whether it is an electric vehicle or a vehicle driven by a fuel engine, the application system is the same.

a. If the manufacturer is applying for the first time, it needs to register its corporate account information on the official certification website;

b. Fill in the product parameters, including vehicle dimensions, engine or motor parameters, drive method and VIN;

c.Submit relevant reports;

e. GSO officers review the draft certificates and approve certificates.

It should be noted that the validity period of the GCC certificate is calculated based on the Model Year, so manufacturers need to plan the certification cycle in advance.
